Palm Beach waterfront home, mixed-use project among winners in AIA architecture contest

Two Palm Beach projects designed by Dailey Janssen Architects were among 23 awards and honors recently presented by AIA Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Principal architect Roger Janssen and others from his West Palm Beach-based firm attended the 2023 Design and Honor Awards held in Oct. 18 in the Venetian Ballroom at The Breakers.

Dailey Janssen’s projects were the only projects recognized in Palm Beach. Over the years, the firm has designed dozens of houses on the island.

Dailey Janssen’s design of a contemporary-style house with Caribbean architectural influences at 149 E. Inlet Drive won a Citation Award for excellent residential design. With large expanses of glass and a focus on outdoor-living areas, the house was designed to take advantage of its site at the “corner” of the Atlantic Ocean and the inlet at the north tip of the island.

At its recent awards reception, AIA Palm Beach President Jorge Luaces, left, and Immediate Past President Bruce Retzsch, far right, presented a Merit Award for Urban Planning to architect Roger Janssen and project architect Jason Skinner of Dailey Janssen Architects for their work on the Via Flagler by The Breakers project in Palm Beach.

Dailey Janssen also earned a Merit Award for Urban Planning for its design of the Via Flagler by The Breakers mixed-use project on Royal Poinciana Way. With multiple courtyards, the Mediterranean-style project includes retail, office and restaurant space on the ground floor, with six luxury condominiums on the second level.

Dailey Janssen won two other awards — a Merit Award for excellent residential design for its work on a “cottage” in Jupiter; and an Honor Award for historic preservation for a project at a residence in Winter Park.
