Palm Beach's popular resale shop Church Mouse reopens for the season

The Church Mouse was back in business Monday morning following its annual summer hiatus.

The popular resale store at 376 S. County Road reopened to an enthusiastic group of shoppers at 10 a.m.

The business, which is run by The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, had been closed since June.

Daisy Alvarez, general manager of retail operations for the Church Mouse, welcomed back her clientele and her volunteers on Monday.

She noted that while some volunteers spend their summers on vacation, others remain with the store assisting in research, cleaning, sorting and unpackaging donated goods.

"We are so grateful for their dedication and support," Alvarez said of the store's volunteers. "Additionally, I am excited to see the clientele return. I love to show them the beautiful items we have received over the spring and summer months. We are beyond grateful to our donors as well as our clientele."

The Church Mouse features a variety of items including women’s and men’s designer clothing, antiques, artwork and furniture.

Items vary from season to season, Alvarez said, with the current season expected to include vintage and antique fine china; crystal chandeliers from Baccarat, Steuben and Tiffany; and decorative porcelain.

Additionally, Alvarez said, the store will carry Maitland-Smith coffee tables and wall hangings, affordable home goods and decor, silk draperies, fabric, fine linens and an extensive furniture gallery with extra stock to replenish as needed.

The Church Mouse relies on a wide network of donors to supply items for the store, Alvarez said.

Support comes from residents and those living out of state as well as from realtors, contractors, antique auction houses and designers.

The Church Mouse accepts gently-used donations of clothing, purses, accessories, electronics, shoes, kitchenware, china, crystal, furniture, clothing, books, costume jewelry and more. The store's “donor door” is located on the south side of the building nearest to the TD Bank.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
