Palm Desert boys' golf plays well on northern California trip

The Palm Desert Aztecs boys golf team continued its strong early season play this week with a second-place finish in a packed 21-team De La Salle high school tournament in northern California.

Palm Desert’s 367 score was 18 shots behind tournament host and winner De La Salle. Palm Desert was led by freshman Luke Ringkamp’s 4-under 68, good for second individually in the event. Freshman Cash Tompoles shot 72 for Palm Desert, while Caden Breisch shot 73, Landon Breisch shot 76 and Max Margolis shot 78.

Earlier in the week, Palm Desert (379) finished third in a four-team tournament featuring winner De La Salle, second-place finisher Torrey Pines and fourth-place finisher De La Salle No. 2. Ringkamp again led Palm Desert with a 73, followed by Landon Breisch at 74, Caden Breisch at 76, Tompoles at 77 and Margolis at 79

Redlands 220, La Quinta 221: In a non-league match at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, the Blackhawks lost a close match to the Bulldogs.

La Quinta was was led by a pair of 40s from Sinjin Armstrong and Leonardo Perez-Menor. Daxton Westlake shot 42, Jeremy Endresashot 48, and Jordan Duffy added a 51.

La Quinta travels to Vista Murietta on Monday.

Palm Desert 187, Shadow Hills 255: Ivan Tran fired a 33 at the Mission Hills Gary Player Course to lead Palm Desert to the Desert Empire League victory.

Mason Montgomery shot 37 for the Aztecs, while Josh Householder shot 38, Brandon Wilson shot 39, Christian Baus added a 40 and Jacob Kallman’s 43 was not counted in the six-play, five-count format.

La Quinta 210, Rancho Mirage 303: The Blackhawks won the DEL match with Leonardo Perez-Menor shooting a 38 including an eagle on the par-4 seventh hole.

Daxton Westlake shot 41, Sinjin Armstrong shot 43 and Tyler Garrison and Jordan Duffy each shot 44.

Rancho Mirage 276, Hemet West Valley 330: In a non-league match at Seven Hills Golf Course in Hemet, the Rattlers earned the win with Adan Jacquez shooting a career-low 42. Juniors Jonathan Castleberry with a 58 and Gram Craven with a 59 helped Rancho Mirage, with three freshmen Ryan Perrego (57), Amare Skosana (60) and Zach Richardson (67) rounding out the scoring.

La Quinta 210, Palm Springs 325: Leonardo Perez-Menor, Sinjin Armstrong and Daxton Westlake all shot 41 for the Blackhawks, while Tyler Garrison shot 42 and Jordan Duffy added a 45.

Baseball

Indio 10, Desert Hot Springs 0: In a Desert Valley league contest, Mario Gutierrez pitched six scoreless innings while striking out five for the Rajahs in the win.

Julian Mandujano had two hits and drove in three runs for Indio, while Bryan Nuno added two hits, scored two runs and drive in one run.

Indio improved to 1-1 in league play.
