Palm Desert softball ace fires no-hitter in Redlands Tournament

It's the early part of the high school softball season, but don't tell that to Palm Desert's Madysyn Lopez, who is already in midseason form.

In a game during the Redlands Tournament last week, Lopez tossed a no-hitter against Santa Rosa Academy in an 8-0 win, striking out seven in seven innings. It was nearly a perfect game as the first batter of the game reached base on an error, and then Lopez retired the next 21 in a row.

Lopez also batted 3-for-3 in the win. Rebecca Devers was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Brooklyn Dowdle had two hits and an RBI, Bella Mejia had two RBIs and Mary Jane Limon and Natalie Rey each scored two runs.

The Aztecs also beat Carter 6-3 in the same tournament with Lopez pitching a complete-game four-hitter and also going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. She was named to the all-tournament team. Dowdle was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Aubrey Martinez and Limon both had two hits, while Marissa Raabe reached base in all three at-bats. The Aztecs are 5-3 in the non-league season.
