Palm Springs Aerial Tramway’s annual snow guessing contest ends with powder on Tuesday

Snow has touched down on Mt. San Jacinto and 10 participants in the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway’s annual Snow Guessing Contest have been awarded prizes for correctly guessing the first date of a measurable snowfall.

The contest began on Oct. 1 and officially ended on Tuesday, when the Tramway’s Mountain Station recorded one inch of snow as of 10 p.m.

The first 10 entries received with the correct date of snowfall won four admissions to the tram and some special mementos: a Tramway sticker and beanie hat.

The winners were:

  1. Carolyn Kirner-Schmidt of San Diego

  2. Sharon Jones of Rancho Mirage

  3. Deidre Buck of Loma Linda

  4. Wendy Smith of Palm Springs

  5. M. Hankins of Palm Springs

  6. James Perkins (no city given)

  7. Edward Ramos of Palm Springs

  8. M. Bratton of Indio

  9. Michelle Collins of Twentynine Palms

  10. Robin Marson of La Quinta

There’s never been a year when someone didn’t win the Snow Guessing Contest and this year saw a total of 605 entries.

Now that Mt. San Jacinto, which has an elevation of 10,834 feet, has caught some snowflakes, a snow day is just a short 10-minute tramcar ride away from the Coachella Valley's desert floor.
