The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will soon reopen to the public, October 8, 2020.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will reopen Monday after being closed for almost a month for its annual maintenance.

The tram closed on Sept. 12 for upkeep, which this year included the replacement of tower sheaves (pulley wheels), replacement of the dome windows in both tramcars, and comprehensive mechanical and electrical testing of tramway systems.

The first tram up on Monday will be at 10 a.m. and the last tram up will be at 8 p.m. with cars departing every 30 minutes.

“Each year’s maintenance closure allows our team the opportunity to perform both mechanical and aesthetic improvements to our tramcars and to our Valley and Mountain Stations,” General Manager Nancy Nichols said in a news release. “We look forward to welcoming a new season of Coachella Valley residents and visitors to the Tramway and Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness.”

Tram fans can also still participate in the yearly snow guessing contest by sending in a postcard with their guess about when the first measurable inch of snow will fall at the Mountain Station at the top of the tram.

The first 10 entries received with the correct date of snowfall will win four passes for the tram, plus what is described as "a special Tram gift memento." In the event there are more than 10 correct entries, the earliest postmarks will prevail.

To submit an entry, write down your best-guess date on a postcard and mail it to: Snow Guessing Contest, 1 Tram Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262. There is no limit on how many times you can enter, but only one date is allowed per postcard. More information can be found online at https://pstramway.com/tram-news/.
