Palm Springs has become all about bachelorette parties, massive marketing events and greed

In 2015, The Desert Sun ran an article voicing the concerns of residents who find themselves living next to large-scale music events. Those quoted stated the 2008 event house ordinance was not being enforced.

Enter 2023. Every other neighborhood is full of Airbnbs. The homeless population wanders with ease. Goldenvoice has taken over Indio with huge music events that flood our valley every spring with thousands of partygoers. Those who own hotels or restaurants send their prices into orbit. The Desert Sun recently announced the Splash House lineup for August 2023. Though Splash House's attendance is roughly 7,000 people while Coachella is 250,000, I fear it will soon grow in its scope and volume.

Problem is: the three Splash House hosting hotels are in well-established neighborhoods full of families, retirees and those who are tired of urban congestion. End result: promoters rake in profits and the quality of life goes spirally down for those who call this home. Those who choose to stay are subjected to vibrating walls, floors, anxious pets and a total disregard for our rights to a peaceful environment.

Attempts to mitigate and enforce the noise levels are in vain. Promises by Goldenvoice to enforce neighborhood noise levels, trash and traffic are subject to criticism. A city that once boasted class and integrity is no more. It's all about bachelorette parties, massive marketing events and greed. If one should challenge those who are making these decisions, be prepared to be shut down. Our voices no longer matter.

President Joe Biden has brought results

The next presidential election will soon be upon us and the question all Americans must decide is, “Do you want a president who governs or one who is out for revenge?” It is disheartening to hear Democrats expressing disapproval of President Joe Biden because of his age.

They say, “He isn’t strong enough” or “His age he is too old.” Whatever happened to the saying, “With age comes wisdom”? I think President Biden has been villainized and underestimated. During President Biden’s first term in office, he restored normalcy to our country under unprecedented crises, a raging pandemic, economic crises, climate crises and racial injustice.

President Biden ran to bring results. He passed bipartisan legislation rebuilding our infrastructure and brought back manufacturing jobs something Trump could never do. President Biden has lowered health care and drug costs. He has restored investments in mental health care and better health care for our veterans. These are just a few of his accomplishments. With all these accomplishments how can anyone say President Biden hasn’t been a productive president and that he should not be reelected for four more years? Our next election will decide if we want a president who governs with results or one who wants revenge.

Let freedom ring!

Happy Independence Day, everyone.

As you celebrate the freedoms of the American way of life this Fourth of July holiday, don't forget to let out a cheer for the United States Supreme Court which has reinstated the freedom to discriminate against our fellow American citizens.
