Cathedral City man arrested in connection with shooting near McDonald's on E. Palm Canyon

A Cathedral City man was arrested Friday night in connection with a shooting that occurred on East Palm Canyon Drive on Friday afternoon in Palm Springs.

Antonio Ramirez Lorenzo, 27, was arrested at about 5 p.m. in the area of his home, Palm Springs police said in a press release.

Police were called to the 2400 block of E. Palm Canyon Drive at 1:50 p.m. on reports that an altercation near the McDonald's restaurant escalated and shots were fired.

When they arrived, witnesses told them that some sort of altercation took place in the parking lot and shots were fired, officials said.

All involved parties left the scene and no injuries were reported, police said.

Investigators reviewed video and were able to identify a suspect in the shooting, and drove to the suspect’s home in Cathedral City. While there, a vehicle left the house with an occupant matching the description of the suspected shooter, police said.

Investigators conducted a traffic stop and Lorenzo was detained.

During a search of the vehicle, police said investigators found a loaded firearm and ammunition.

Lorenzo was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted homicide; shooting at an inhabited vehicle; felon in possession of a firearm; felon in possession of a loaded firearm; carrying a concealed firearm; felon in possession of ammunition; and a felony narcotics warrant.

It wasn't immediately known if the shooting was related to one that occurred at 12:42 a.m. Friday in the 1800 block of Smoke Tree Lane, just south of East Palm Canyon Drive.

In that incident, police Chief Andrew Mills told The Desert Sun that rounds had struck a vehicle and an apartment building, but there were no injuries. Detectives were investigating and no other details were immediately available, Mills said.
