Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent Mike Swize announced his resignation Monday, effective on a date that's yet to be determined. His announcement follows his appointment as the new superintendent of Perris Elementary School District on Monday afternoon.

Swize was named PSUSD’s superintendent in July 2021. He began his career in education with PSUSD in 1990 and has served as a teacher, elementary and middle school principal, programs coordinator, director and assistant superintendent.

At Perris Elementary Elementary School District, he will replace Jean Marie Frey, who is retiring. Perris Elementary School District serves about 4,500 elementary school children, including about 84% who qualify as socioeconomically disadvantaged, according to state data.

“It is with mixed emotions that I make this decision to leave the district I have been with my entire career,” Swize said. “I could not be prouder of the amazing work we have done as a district, and I could not be more grateful to have been part of the executive leadership team for the past 13 years.”

PSUSD Board President John Gerardi added, “On behalf of our governing board, I extend our sincerest gratitude for (Swize’s) exceptional leadership and dedicated service. We wish him the best in his new position and throughout his future.”
