Palm Springs woman dies after car hits traffic pole on Sunday

A woman died after her car collided with a traffic pole in Palm Springs early Sunday morning.

Palm Springs police responded to the single-vehicle traffic collision in the area of District Center Drive and Gene Autry Trail around 1:26 a.m., the Palm Springs Police Department said in a press release.

The car had major damage and the driver, who the Riverside County Coroner's office identified as 38-year-old Palm Springs resident Lena Woodson, was trapped inside with major injuries. Firefighters tried to extricate Woodson, but she succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene, police said.

It is not known yet if alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, police said.
