Palmer joins county as public information officer

Robert Palmer was recently appointed to the position of public information officer by the Guernsey County Commissioners.

Commission President Dave Wilson explained the motivation behind the decision to hire Palmer to the position.

"With more and more people relying on social media for news and community information, we need someone to provide both timely and accurate information on those platforms as to traditional media," Wilson explained.

"A short time ago, Commissioner Dave Wilson contacted me to see if I would be interested in the position. After meeting with the commissioners and staff, it was a sure thing," Palmer offered. "I have always been concerned about areas where I live and it is important to me that information is passed on to residents to make them more informed on what is happening and how their tax money is being spent in a positive manner. I am so happy with my move here and want to assist in any way possible."

Palmer has an array of experience in journalism including radio and TV as a news anchor, director and producer among other duties. He also worked in the newspaper industry in both online news and advertising. He worked for Futuri Media, which provided news stories from around the world to multiple TV and radio stations.

He worked for a division of the Cleveland Plain Dealer for 22-weekly newspapers. He began his career as a disc jockey in Marion and at one time worked as a reporter and anchor for WHIZ-TV and radio and then moved on to other locations in Ohio, Indiana and Georgia. His duties included news director, anchor and reporter, and he had a 30-minutes interview show with various celebrities and politicians. He also was provided work as a voiceover actor.

Palmer most recently worked as a news reporter/anchor at AVC Communications after moving back to the Guernsey/Noble county area from Cleveland to be closer to family.
