Pal-Mac wins fifth straight Section V girls lacrosse title; Victor captures Class B title

The championship team in Section V Class D girls lacrosse this year was also the best squad last year.

And the season before that. And the two years before that.

Palmyra-Macedon extended its string of Class D sectional titles to five Wednesday night, when the Red Raiders edged Aquinas 9-8 in the tournament final at East Rochester.

A goal scored in the final minute of the fourth quarter did the job.

Molly Seither, a midfielder in her junior year at Palmyra-Macedon, bounced a shot into a net to break the 8-8 score with 23.4 seconds remaining.

Palmyra-Macedon needed a small rally to win another championship trophy.

Aquinas led 8-7, before Palmyra-Macedon freshman Jenna Santelli evened the score with 1:11 seconds remaining, scoring on an 8-meter shot.

On paper, it seemed as if this would be a rebuilding season at Palmyra-Macedon. A total of four players returned to the team from the 2021 sectional champion, including one senior.

"It's not that we didn’t think we could do it, but we had a lot of work to do," Seither said. "Finally, after that last goal we kind of knew we could do it. We were there.

"We all went crazy."

Reagan Diehl scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Palmyra-Macedon. Seither finished with two goals, including the game winner, and Santelli had two goals with an assist. Lily Boesel and Kylie Waeghe also scored once for the Red Raiders.

"A lot of these kids played JV and a few modified, last year," Palmyra-Macedon coach EJ Burse said.

Gianna Leonardi had a team-high three goals for No. 1 seed Aquinas, while Mackenna Brown, Savannah Hinchliffe, Ryan Springer and Sienna Hinchcliffe each scored once,

Aquinas was also a runner-up at sectionals last season.

The Red Raiders are headed back to the Class D state tournament.

All of the Section VI champions will come to Pittsford Sutherland on June 4 to play Section V's best, including Palmyra-Macedon.

The Red Raiders will face either Gowanda or Eden/North Collins at 6 p.m. in a Class D Far West Regional round matchup, a state tournament quarterfinal. Section VI Class D and A finals are on June 2.

Rush-Henrietta is the Section V Class A champion. Honeoye Falls-Lima won the Class C Tournament. Victor is the Section V Class B champion.
