CANYON — Entering the finale of the WT Showcase, Jaime Carrillo had scored one goal in the two matches he played. That fact put him in serious jeopardy of missing out on the Golden Boot Award to Pampa's Justin Martinez.

Carrillo had no intention of losing that accolade without a fight.

Carrillo showed everyone in attendance Saturday why he's considered one of the top soccer players the Panhandle by scoring six goals against Dumas, including five in the first half alone, as the Dons closed out the Showcase with an 8-2 win.

It was a nice bounce back effort for the Dons (6-1-0) after they suffered their first loss of the season the day before to Montwood.

"I think this was kind of a statement for us," Palo Duro interim coach Shaun Massie said. "We went through a little bit of adversity the past two games. We needed a response and we got it."

Carrillo needed three minutes to get PD on the board and nine minutes to get the brace. Uxmal Morales made it a three-goal deficit two minutes after Carrillo's second goal and Danny Garcia made it 4-0 in the 17th minute.

Carrillo earned the hat trick a minute after Garcia's goal before picking up his fourth in the 28th. He capped off the first half scoring with a header in the 39th to make it 7-0 going into the midway point.

The Demons attempted to claw their way back into the contest as Ish Marchan scored in the 48th.

But Carrillo scored his sixth goal just two minutes after to finish the offensive onslaught for PD. Noe Estrada scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to give the game its final score.

"I've got to keep working for the team," Carrillo said. "Scoring goals is what I'm good at. I'm thankful for the goals I scored."

Dumas head coach Sammy Solis said the WT Showcase was all about development for his squad.

"We just need to finish strong," he said. "It wasn't the best day in the office, but we're out here competing even as a smaller school. It's good to battle some adversity being a little short on guys today, but we still came out here and competed. It's good to get that experience and those touches."

At the Conclusion of the Showcase, Caprock was crowned champion of the weekend.
