Pamlico pins opponents in state tournament, New Bern, West Craven see several top finishes

GREENSBORO, NC — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) concluded the 87th Annual Individual Wrestling State Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Day three concluded with 56 champions crowned in the 14 weight classes in each of the Association’s four classifications and four team tournament champions crowned.

Below are the text results for all day three matches. Championship rounds are listed prior to the Consolation rounds in each class.

1A — Pamlico County

120 lbs. — Benjamin Jordan (Avery County, 46-3) won by fall over Marcus Tyson (Pamlico County, 49-2) (Fall 3:45). Tyson finished 2nd at states.

220 lbs. — Koleson Dooley (Robbinsville, 30-8) won by decision over Tyler Stevens (Pamlico County, 38-13) (Dec 5-2). Stevens finished 2nd at states.

126 lbs. — 3rd Place Match — Adrian Lopez (Eastern Randolph, 35-7) won by decision over Elijah Dacuyan (Pamlico County, 38-17) (Dec 5-4). Dacuyan finished 4th at states.

195 lbs. 3rd Place Match — David Hargro (Thomas Jefferson, 38-8) won by decision over Ryan Baker (Pamlico County, 38-12) (Dec 5-2). Baker finished 4th at states.

2A — West Craven

126 lbs. — Rayshun James (Reidsville, 37-2) won by decision over Walker Bell (West Craven, 34-2) (Dec 7-0). Bell finished 2nd at states.

4A — New Bern

285 lbs. — Nathan Carnes (Porter Ridge, 51-1 won by fall over Taevion Cox (New Bern, 15-1) (Fall 3:33). Cox finished 2nd at states.

106 lbs. — 3rd Place Match — Alex Barnett (New Bern, 40-4) won by decision over Trevelian Hall (Lumberton, 43-8) (Dec 9-2). Barnett finished 3rd at states.
