Panama City child abuse investigation leads to 34K lethal doses of fentanyl found in crib, police say

PANAMA CITY — A Panama City woman faces multiple drug charges after a child abuse investigation recently led to the discovery of a large cache of drugs hidden in a baby crib.

According to a Thursday Panama City Police Department news release, Rebecca Turner, 35, has been charged with trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of narcotic equipment.

The investigation began when PCPD detectives were notified by the Florida Department of Children and Families of possible abuse of a child being cared for by the suspect. Following their investigation, detectives were able to charge Turner with two counts of child abuse and violation of probation, the release said.

After securing a warrant, investigators along with members of the department's Street Crimes Unit, conducted a walkthrough of the residence, where they discovered a bag inside a baby crib in the master bedroom. An empty baby formula can inside the bag contained the following:

  • Multi-colored pills that field tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl

  • A crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine

  • A white substance that field tested positive for cocaine

  • A green substance that field tested positive for fentanyl

  • A small black scale and the suspect’s identification card

More than 34,000 lethal doses of fentanyl was confiscated, along with more than 76 grams of methamphetamine and more than 21 grams of marijuana, the release states.

Turner was taken into custody and booked into the Bay County Jail.

The Panama City Police Department is asking anyone with information in the case to call the department at 850- 872-3100, or they can report tips anonymously via smartphone by downloading the "Panama City PD" Tip411 app from the iOS or Google Play stores.
