Panama City motorcyclist, 47, dies Tuesday in head-on collision with truck in Callaway

One tourist was rescued from the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday off Public Beach Access 21 in unincorporated Bay County.

CALLAWAY — A Panama City resident is dead and two others are injured after a truck collided head-on with a motorcycle while attempting to pass a vehicle.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 22 near Highway 2297.

A 30-year-old Panama City man was driving a truck east along State Road 22 with two passengers: a 29-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child, both of whom also are from Panama City.

The driver attempted to "pass a slower vehicle" and collided head-on with a motorcycle traveling along State Road 22 in the opposite direction. FHP says the driver "failed to ensure a clear path of travel" when passing.

The motorcycle was driven by a 47-year-old Panama City man. That driver died.

The man and the woman in the truck both suffered minor injuries, and the child was not harmed.
