'Pancake Ice' Forms Atop Lake Superior in Wisconsin

Rare “ice pancakes” were spotted floating atop Lake Superior near Ashland, Wisconsin, footage posted on November 26 shows.

The phenomenon occurs when waves and cold air temperatures cause discs of ice to grow on the water’s surface.

The National Weather Service said a “clipper-like system” would bring snow and cold to the area.
