Pancake qualifies for U.S. Women's Am

Jul. 8—Zionsville graduate Annabelle Pancake has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur next month.

A rising junior at Clemson, Pancake shot a 1-under 71 at Walnut Grove Country Club in Beavercreek, Ohio. That placed her fourth in the field, earning a ticket.

Pancake started off well, birding three of the first six holes to be 2-under. She bogeyed the eighth and ninth to make the turn even-par, but birdied the 10th to get back under par.

A bogey on the 12th brought her back to even, but Pancake birdied the 14th and 16th to move back to 2-under, and seemed in a good position to earn one of the five advancing spots.

But she bogeyed the 18th, putting her in a four-way playoff for the final two qualification spots.

On the fourth playoff hole, Pancake birdied to punch her ticket to the U.S. Women's Amateur.

The U.S Women's Amateur will be held from August 8-14 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

The event featured 36-holes of stroke play, with the top-64 advancing to match play.

This will be Pancake's second appearance in the U.S. Women's Amateur. In 2019 she missed the cut after being 12-over during stroke play.

The event will be televised on the golf channel.
