Colectivo Coffee launches UW-Milwaukee Panther Blend

Colectivo Coffee and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have collaborated to create a new coffee blend to benefit student scholarships at UWM.

Panther Blend will be sold as whole beans in 12-ounce bags through the end of the year at Milwaukee-area Colectivo locations The coffee is sold online for shipping, and $1 of each bag will be donated to UWM.

The coffee has tasting notes of plum, dark chocolate and Concord grape, with a medium body, and it is Fair Trade Organic Certified. The bags have an illustration of Pounce Panther, by Colectivo senior graphic artist Kevin Callahan, a 1985 UWM alum.

Colectivo is launching two additional college coffee blends this fall, a Northwestern Wildcat Blend and a Wisconsin Badgers Blend. See colectivo.com for details.

New Berlin Historical Society Applefest includes beer garden

The New Berlin Historical Society’s annual Applefest will feature a beer garden with City Lights Brewing products from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Historical Park, 19765 W. National Ave. City Lights will have HazyIPA, Mexican Lager, Oktoberfest and Strawberry Dragon Fruit Hard Seltzer on draft, with cans of Pub Stout and Coconut Porter.

Apples can be purchased from Weston's Antique Apples, the oldest active orchard in Waukesha County, open since 1901. Golden Russet, Spigold, MacIntosh, Cortland, Oxheart Pippin and Hudson Golden Gem varieties will be sold. And the Hemken Honey Co. of Big Bend will sell pure raw honey and hand-poured beeswax candles.

Lions and tigers and beers at Milwaukee County Zoo

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Zoo Brew will return to the Milwaukee County Zoo grounds at 10001 W. Blue Mound Road on Oct. 6. The food and beer-tasting event will feature a campfire beer garden and two indoor spots: the big cat building and the Peck Welcome Center.

Beverages will be provided by Ansay International, Broken Bat Brewing Co., Ciderboys Cider Co., Founders Brewing Co., Foxtown Brewing, Great Lakes Brewing Co., Lakefront Brewery, Miller Brewing, New Glarus Brewing Co., Rookery Brewing Co., SHW Brands, Stevens Point Brewery, Sweetwater Brewing Co., Tanqueray Gin and Third Space Brewing.

Food vendors continue to be added to the event; they include Camp Chocolate, Jen’s Sweet Treats, Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, Milwaukee Pretzel Co., Nothing Bundt Cakes and Usinger’s Sausage.

Admission is $60 for entry at 7 p.m., and a VIP ticket is $70 for admission at 6 p.m. A designated-driver ticket is $30. Zoo Pass members receive a $10 discount. Walk-ins will be accepted, unless the event fills prior to that date. Visit www.gozoobrew.com

Harvest Dinner in Bay View

Anodyne Coffee will host a four-course family-style dinner featuring produce grown in the Anodyne garden with wine and amaro pairings on Oct. 8 at its Bay View cafe, 2920 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.

The first course of Wisconsin cheese and snacks will be paired with prosecco and an apple cider whiskey cocktail, followed by an onion tart made with Village Farmstead onions and herbs.

The main entree is a choice of stracotto, or pot roast, with wood-roasted squash, braised greens and risotto, or braised wild mushrooms and black beans served with wood-roasted squash, braised greens and risotto. .

Dessert is cardamom pear cake with lemongrass cream and Grandma Judy’s almond biscotti, paired with amaro. Tickets are $80 a person; buy them by Oct. 5 at eventbrite.com.

Farm to Fire dinner at Eldr + Rime in Wauwatosa

Chefs from four dining establishments will collaborate for a five-course dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Eldr + Rime, 2300 N. Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa.  Courses will be paired with beverages and will feature locally sourced products prepared using the restaurant's wood-fired grill or oven.

The menu will be announced closer to the event, but it includes seafood, seasonal produce, house pasta, roasted meats and a complementing dessert.

Chefs Adam Pawlak of Egg & Flour Pasta Bar, Kyle Knall of Birch and Alex Lyskowicz of Bavette La Boucherie will join with chef Gary Baca, David Cook and Tim Jordan of Eldr + Rime for the event.

Tickets are $175 a person, plus gratuity, taxes and fees. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Feed the Children organization. See www.eldrandrime.com.

New chef at Harley museum

Sione Moonia will lead menu development and operations as the new executive chef at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Moonia is  from Hawaii, where he worked as banquet head chef at the Sheraton Maui Resort, and as a chef at other Maui island restaurants, including the Kahana Resort Beach House & Grill, and the seafood restaurant Honu.

At Harley's Motor restaurant, the menu includes items such as barbecue and burgers. Catering is through 1903 Events at the museum. Motor Bar & Restaurant, 400 W. Canal St., is open daily. Visit www.motorrestaurant.com

À la carte menu is back at Lake Park Bistro

Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro again is serving an à la carte menu, while keeping the four-course menu of traditional and modern French dishes it launched in the pandemic. The à la carte menu will include French onion soup, steamed mussels, traditional Burgundy snails under puff pastry crust and country pork pâté. Entrées such as steak frites, filet au poivre and sole meunière are back, joined by new seasonal entrees.

Gathering Place Brewing has official Cheesehead TV beer

The Milwaukee Riverwest brewery Gathering Place Brewing Co. has created Carry the G, a cream flavored ale chosen as the official beer of Cheesehead TV, an online site devoted to Green Bay Packers news.

The beer's name came from a phrase attributed to Aaron Rodgers, meaning you carry the the ideals of your favorite team wherever you go. The beer is sold at locations in Green Bay, and at Scout Wine Merchants at 4512 N. Holiday Folk Fair explores the story of bread

Bread will be the featured food for the 2022 Holiday Folk Fair at Wisconsin State Fair Park on Nov. 18 to 20. The Story of Bread will explore different types of bread, origins and leavening ingredients.

Attendees will be able to taste a wide assortment of breads from around the world, and Folk Fair presenters will share how bread plays an important role in their cultures and traditions, and how it also nourishes friendship.

The Holiday Folk Fair will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 19 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at State Fair Park Exposition Center, 8200 W. Greenfield Ave., West Allis. www.folkfair.org

Beef Council offers grants to schools

The Wisconsin Beef Council is helping teachers incorporate beef products into the curriculum at middle and high schools across the state as part of its annual Beef in the Classroom grant program for the 2022-’23 school year.

The grant reimburses teachers $100 to $300 a school, depending on class size. Senior and junior high Family and consumer science classrooms and agriculture education classrooms are eligible to apply.
