Panthers CB Stephon Gilmore reportedly will not play in Week 7

Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore hasn’t played an NFL game in 307 days. Well, that count may get up to at least 314 by this time next week.

According to Jonathan Alexander of The Charlotte Observer, Gilmore will not travel with the team as they take on the New York Giants in Week 7. Despite his progression in conditioning throughout the past few days, the coaching staff has decided against bringing their new defender along for the trip.

Gilmore will now have to wait at least another week to make his return to the field. He last played in Week 15 of the 2020 campaign before succumbing to a torn quad, keeping him out of the last eight slates of regular-season play.

The Panthers acquired Gilmore from the New England Patriots back on Oct. 6 in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick. He is currently on the final season of a five-year, $65 million deal.

As was the case last week, look for Donte Jackson and Keith Taylor Jr. to take on the main duties for the secondary along the perimeter. C.J. Henderson, who will return after missing last week’s loss, will figure to factor in as well.
