Texans coordinator Bobby Slowik becomes 7th candidate interviewed by Titans for coaching vacancy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are up to seven coaching candidates interviewed virtually after finishing a session Thursday night with Houston offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

The Titans interviewed Carolina offensive coordinator Thomas Brown earlier Thursday. Then they spoke with Slowik, who helped with the development of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud for the AFC South champs.

Slowik and current Titans general manager Ran Carthon both worked for the San Francisco 49ers between 2017 and 2022. Slowik started as a defensive quality control coach before becoming an offensive assistant in 2019, passing game specialist in 2021 and then passing game coordinator in 2022.

He started in the NFL as a video assistant in 2010 and became a defensive assistant in Washington in 2011. The Texans visit Baltimore on Saturday in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Brown, 37, became the second Black candidate to interview with the Titans, who fired Mike Vrabel on Jan. 9 after six seasons. Brown was hired by Carolina as offensive coordinator in February 2023. He also interviewed for the Houston job that went to DeMeco Ryans.

He started coaching running backs in the NFL in 2020 with the Los Angeles Rams, added the title of assistant head coach in 2021 and then coached tight ends as assistant head coach in 2022. Brown started coaching in college with stops at Georgia, Chattanooga, Marshall, Wisconsin, Miami and South Carolina.

The Titans interviewed Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Wednesday night. They also have interviewed Las Vegas Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

No NFL team can interview coaching candidates employed by other teams in person until Monday after the divisional round of the playoffs.
