Panthers swim by Black Tornado

Jan. 8—South Medford enjoyed a triumphant day in the pool Saturday at the Medford YMCA, scoring convincing wins over North Medford to sweep the Southwest Conference swim meet.

Ellie Carson earned a pair of individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle (27.46 seconds) and 100 backstroke 1 minute, 7.41 seconds) to lead the Panther girls to a 160-65 win over North Medford, which got two individual wins from Erika George in the 200 freestyle (2:15.93) and 100 butterfly (1:09.75).

In the boys meet, Cole Schiffer led the charge for the South boys with two individual wins (200 free, 100 back) to counter a pair of wins by Dylan Wittenberg of the Black Tornado (50 free, 100 fly) as the Panthers prevailed 165-52.

Schiffer won the 200 free in 2:03.12 and the 100 back in 1:02.56, while Wittenberg won the 50 free in 23.09 and 100 fly in 1:01.19

South Medford also swept all the relays in the dual meet to cap off an impressive showing.
