Paraguay bans wild animals in circuses and other entertainment shows

ASUNCION, Paraguay - Paraguay has banned using wild animals in circuses.

The South American country's environment secretary said Thursday that wild animals must be protected and can no longer be used in entertainment shows, even If they're tamed.

Local animal rights activists have also launched a campaign to swap horse-drawn carts used to collect household waste for carts pulled by cheap motorcycles.

In 2009, Bolivia became the first country worldwide to ban wild and domestic animals in circuses.
