Paramount Theatre’s 2023-24 season includes ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ as well as ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ at Copley

Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora announced a slate of new shows for its 2023-24 season, including four musicals for its Broadway Series and three shows for its BOLD Series at the Copley Theatre, its new sister stage across the street.

The Broadway series is focused on stories about curiosity, inspiration, passion, struggle and family, while the BOLD Series at Copley has selected stories that are honest and emotional.

Broadway Series

“Little Shop of Horrors” (Aug. 30-Oct. 15): Paramount’s 12th Broadway series kicks off with this show from Howard Ashman and Alan Menken that features a carnivorous plant, an evil dentist and plenty of catchy tunes.

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (Nov. 8-Jan. 14, 2024): This family-friendly musical based on Roald Dahl’s tale will take holiday theatergoers on a magical journey through Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory. Songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, as well as from the movie by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley.

“Billy Elliot: The Musical” (Feb. 7, 2024-March 24, 2024): This show tells the story of an 11-year-old English boy who uncovers a love for ballet, with music by Elton John. Book and lyrics by Lee Hall.

“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” (April 24, 2024-June 16, 2024): Learn the true story behind Carole King’s rise to fame, from her start as a young songwriter from Brooklyn to becoming one of the most successful artists in contemporary music history. Words and music by Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

BOLD Series

“Next to Normal” (July 26-Sept. 3): This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, which features a contemporary rock score, is about how a family that appears to be normal is actually dealing with depression, denial and grief on the inside. A musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

“What the Constitution Means to Me” (Oct. 4-Nov. 12): Playwright Heidi Schreck’s play explores who the U.S. Constitution is truly for, and questions if we should get rid of the Constitution and start over.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” (March 13, 2024-April 21, 2024): The Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tennessee Williams, set in New Orleans, explores the themes of hope and despair, and the difference between reality and illusion.
