The much-anticipated return of Barnes & Noble in Paramus will occur this week on Black Friday.

Joseph Simmons, also known as DJ Run from Run-DMC, jewelry designer and author Justine Simmons and Ridgewood author Harlan Coben will cut the ribbon at the store’s new location at 634 Route 17 north at 8 a.m. The three authors will also sign copies of their books during the event.

“Our old bookstore was a beacon in the community for 28 years and I am excited to be a part of bringing that back,” Paramus Store Manager Denise Benders, who has worked for the company for 23 years, said in a statement.

“Our booksellers have been hard at work preparing for the hustle and bustle of the holidays, stocking our displays with the books, gifts, toys and more that we know our customers want," Benders said. "We can’t wait to welcome you into your new Paramus Barnes & Noble.”

Remaining on Route 17

The 35,000-square-foot store has taken the place of a former Big Lots! store. The site is about a mile south of the old Paramus Barnes & Noble, which closed in March after nearly 30 years in business. The nonprofit New Concepts for Living announced plans to take over the old location and build a state-of-the-art "achievement center” for adults with disabilities.

Employees at the new Paramus store have shared views of the interior on the company’s Facebook page, showcasing the new kids' area and a holiday-themed section, among other interior shots.

A used-book section, a popular feature of the former Paramus location, will also come to the new store in early 2024.

“It was a dark day when we lost our Paramus bookstore in March after 28 very happy years," CEO James Daunt said in a statement. “We are delighted to return so quickly with this beautiful and enormous new bookstore.”
