Henderson County’s two hospitals both recently received an “A” safety rating from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm, according to a news release.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a public service provided by The Leapfrog Group, according to the nonprofit organization’s website.

AdventHealth Hendersonville earned the A rating for the 12th consecutive survey period.

“Safety and quality are the top priorities for all of us here at AdventHealth Hendersonville. They drive everything our team members do, from direct patient care to the dozens of patient care support roles,” said Brandon Nudd, AdventHealth Hendersonville President and CEO. “I am so excited to share this recognition with our exceptional team and the patients who trust us with their health and wellness care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients, the release said. The grading system is peer-reviewed, transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Delivering quality outcomes for all Pardee patients remains our top priority,” said James M. Kirby, II, Pardee president and CEO. “This recognition from The Leapfrog Group is a testament to the collective effort of our highly trained and dedicated clinicians as they work day in and day out to provide our patients with compassionate and quality care in the safest setting possible.”

The CEO of the Leapfrog Group offered a congratulatory statement for both local hospitals.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of (Pardee and AdventHealth Hendersonville) for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

Mission Hospital in Asheville also received an A rating.
