Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER) has created the Gender Unicorn to teach children about gender identity. “It teaches students of all ages about gender identity, expression, and attraction,” says Eli Erlick, co-founder of TSER. “It teaches them that everything is on a spectrum, and that they should be able to explore and express themselves.” The graphic has become a topic of heated debate, with some asking if teaching and discussing gender identity in schools is indoctrinating and over-sexualizing youth. In the video above from Thursday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “The Battle Over Gender Inclusivity in Schools,” hear why Asra Nomani, mother and parent advocate with the Independent Women’s Network, says that the Gender Unicorn should be removed from schools. Plus, psychiatrist Yalda Safai weighs in. On Thursday, Dr. Phil and his guests discuss the debate over gender identity and transgender inclusivity in schools, including whether transgender students should be allowed to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity, and if tampons should be provided in boys’ bathrooms.
