Parents Outraged After Their Daughter Received Racist Drawings From Peers: ‘You’re My Favorite Monkey’
Parents of a Black student at a California elementary school are outraged after their daughter received racist drawings from a sixth-grade peer. According to KTLA, the incident happened at Pepper Tree Elementary School in Upland, California.

Among the series of racist pictures, there is one that states “You’re my favorite monkey.” Another picture reads “To my favorite cotton picker.”
“They said that they were going to give her (a drawing) that specifically said, ‘You’re my favorite slave,’ and they were going to show her as a slave hanging from a tree,” the girl’s mother, Maylana Douglas, told KTLA.
The devastated parents also said they have now pulled their daughter from the school after she faced continued harassment from fellow students. Additionally, the parents said the Upland Unified School District hasn’t taken much action to address the issue.
Rome Douglas said girls at the school also told his daughter they would give her back rubs and massages because it’s Black History Month.
“It’s your month, you’re entitled to back rubs,” Rome said the girls told his daughter according to KTLA. “And apparently, someone told her, well, maybe only half the month because you’re only half Black.”
School district officials said privacy laws do not allow them to confirm whether the perpetrator will be disciplined.
“An investigation took place immediately upon learning about these disgusting, racist drawings students gave to another child in their class,” the district said in a statement to KTLA. “The content in those cards is shocking and abhorrent. We deeply regret that our student has had to endure the hurt that race based bullying causes.”
