Paris Hilton has claimed she invented the concept of the selfie.

The model and socialite has long been at the heart of reality television, and she has now claimed that she invented the selfie alongside pop princess Britney Spears.

“17 years ago, I invented the selfie. What are the most iconic selfies of all time? I’ll be the judge, since I invented them #ThatsHot,” wrote Hilton on X, before she shared a follow-up post commemorating a night with Spears.

“Before the selfie was invented vs. After. An iconic night with @britneyspears 17 years ago #ThatsHot,” she wrote, with the post including photos of the pair taking selfies.

Hilton then shared another post to strengthen her claim, with the post including a video of a journalist recalling her early career, with the figure saying: “I remember in 2004 or around that time, she [Paris] was grabbing her camera taking a picture of herself.

“I didn’t even know what a selfie was. All the things that people are doing today with social media [can be traced back] to Paris Hilton.”

Hilton’s claim was understandably met with a fair degree of scepticism by followers, with several noting via Community Notes that the first recorded was actually taken way back in the 1830s – so Paris was only 170 years late!

The ‘Stars Are Blind’ singer recently made another surprise announcement, with the star confirming that she had welcomed a daughter, London. The baby girl is Hilton’s second child with husband Carter Reum, with the couple welcoming Phoenix earlier this year.

“Thankful for my baby girl” she wrote in a post on Instagram, with a subsequent video on TikTok confirming that her “princess” had arrived.
