New Park Slope Bar Set To Open On Union Street

The community board approved a liquor license for a new bar where Vietnamese restaurant La'Taste used to be.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new bar will likely be coming to Union Street, the community board decided this week. The small bar and restaurant will replace La'Taste, a Vietnamese restaurant that lasted less than a year before it closed down.

Community Board 6 unanimously gave their support to a liquor license filed for 847 Union Street, a small storefront between 6th and 7th Avenue. The location is technically 847B, not to be confused with 847A, which houses popular New Zealand eatery Kiwiana.

The 847B spot was home to Vietnamese restaurant La'Taste, which according to reports seemed to have opened early 2018, but closed down sometime after this summer.

Rachel Freeman, chair of the board's Permits and Licenses Committee, told board members that the new application is for a small bar that will serve drinks and "bar food." It will be opened by two out-of-towners that recently moved to the area.

"They are a couple that are new to the area but are interested in opening this bar," Freeman said.

The new business will include 16 seats at the bar, she said.

Committee members supported the application unanimously given that the location has operated as a bar or restaurant previously, and because the space doesn't have any residences or businesses above or behind it that a new bar might disturb.

The State Liquor Authority will have the final say in whether the liquor license is approved.
