Park on Va. side of Kerr Lake closing on Nov. 1 for repairs

Sep. 27—BOYDTON, Va. — One of the parks on Kerr Lake is closing for a bit more than seven months so the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can make some repairs and improvements there.

The closure affects the North Bend Park, which is on the north shore a little more than half a mile west of the Kerr Lake dam. It goes into effect on Nov. 1, and will last until June 21.

As a result, the Corps isn't planning on accepting campground and picnic shelter reservations for time slots prior to June 21. "The entirety of North Bend Park will be closed throughout this time, including the day use areas, boat ramps, fishing pier, disc golf course, and the biking and walking trails," officials said in a news release announcing the closure.

If work at the park wraps up early, the Corps will re-open the reservation list accordingly.

Officials recommended checking www.facebook.com/JohnHKerrReservoirBuggsIslandLake for updates.

The repair and renovation project targets the park's infrastructure, particularly its sewage system.

"We plan to replace sewer lines, make improvements to lift stations and upgrade our wastewater treatment plant," officials said in the Corps' announcement.

North Bend Park is one of more than a dozen parks and campgrounds scattered around the Virginia and North Carolina sides of the lake.

Corps of Engineers officials stressed that other parks on the Virginia side — namely Tailrace Park, Palmer Point Park, Eastland Creek Park, and the Rudds Creek Day Use — will remain open and "provide similar day use opportunities."
