Parker School District prepares for a ‘Day of Greatness’ on April 17

Students in the Parker School District won't have school on April 17 so they can partake in a new event called the “Day of Greatness.”

Superintendent Donavan DeBoer organized the event as a professional development day for school staff, but high school students will also attend, and the day is optional for junior high school students, he said. It’s also open to anyone in the community who would like to attend.

It should be a day for inspiration, motivation and personal growth, DeBoer said.

Speakers at the event include Rapid City councilman Malcom Chapman, Augustana University President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, First Premier Bank CEO Dana Dykhouse, speaker and author V.J. Smith and veteran Mike Oster, all of whom are leaders in their fields in South Dakota, DeBoer said.

Local food trucks will be available in the parking lot for lunch. Tickets are available at dayofgreatness.com.
