Parkinson's Foundation NJ Moving Day this weekend will raise money for research, treatment
The Parkinson’s Foundation will host a rally and fundraiser, dubbed Moving Day, in Clark on Oct. 7. Organizers are expecting a crowd of 250 to take part in demonstrations and a 1-mile walk that kicks off in Oak Ridge Park.
This event is one among 28 happening nationwide this fall in an effort to fund research, enhance patient care and develop educational programs for those affected by Parkinson's disease, a brain disorder that causes unintended movements, stiffness and difficulty with balance, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Attendees in Clark can expect exhibits and an “immersive” experience that will offer insight into what it’s like to live with the illness.
"The Parkinson's community's unity and support for the foundation are truly remarkable," said Charles Kokolskyj, senior development director of the Northeast region for the Parkinson's Foundation. "The funds raised are pivotal for expanding education, improving care quality and accelerating research to hopefully discover a cure."
Moving Day events have raised over $40 million for the foundation nationwide, the group said in a statement. Funds are used to study Parkinson's genetic components, potential treatments and cures.

An estimated 1 million people live with Parkinson’s in the U.S., with another 90,000 diagnosed annually, the group said ahead of the event.
The Parkinson’s Foundation was founded in 1957 and has since committed over $425 million worldwide to research and care.
The event in Union County starts at 9 a.m. at 136 Oak Ridge Road.
