Parkland School Shooting: Judge Wants Suspect Nikolas Cruz On Trial In September

Broward County Judge Elizabeth Scherer announced during a hearing on Thursday that she will be sending out orders to set specific dates for motions and jury selection.

- New at 6:00, the trial for confessed Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz could begin sometime in September.

A judge today set an order for tentative motions and jury selection. During today's hearing, his lawyer told the court that they have not had meaningful communication with him in the last year.

Cruz, who waived his appearance today, is accused of killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day 2018. Cruz is also being charged with battery on a police officer, which will be tried separately from his murder case.
