Parrot Sings Classic Rock Songs As His Guitarist Owner Jams Out

NOKOMIS, FL — Frank Maglio had nowhere to go for the first few weeks of the coronavirus lockdown last March. An avid musician, the Nokomis, Florida, resident naturally decided to pick up the guitar and bust out some tunes.

What he didn't plan for was having a bandmate. That came on its own, when his pet parrot, Tico, started belting out the perfect vocal backdrop during his guitar playing.

Tico joins in when Maglio plays the guitar, and the musical duo is recorded by Maglio's wife. The guitarist posted a number of them, mostly covers of classic rock songs, on a YouTube channel that has been viewed close to 1 million times and has attracted more than 4,000 subscribers.

This week, the parrot's version of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" was shared by former NBA player Rex Chapman on Twitter.

"If you've already seen a parrot singing Led Zeppelin today just keep on scrolling," wrote Chapman, who has more than 1 million Twitter followers.

The double yellow-headed parrot has "an impressive vibrato," according to an analysis from UltimateClassicRock.com. The parrot isn't singing the words to the songs, but consistently makes sounds that are in line with the beat.

Tico and Maglio have already covered Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive," The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" and "White Wedding" by Billy Idol, among other classics, as their growing fan base looks forward to more.
