JACKSON TWP. – Like many area workers, Nina Parr found herself furloughed when the coronavirus pandemic temporarily closed businesses in 2020.

Although she had worked 20 years as a medical assistant, Parr decided she wanted to be her own boss.

She began seeking products to sell and came across waist trimmer sweat bands. As someone who always has worked out, selling fitness gear appealed to Parr. She started her business, ParrTakeNCare, in September 2020.

After a few months, she saw a presentation on Facebook about ultrasonic cavitation, which uses ultrasound equipment to break down cellulite and fat cells under the skin. Parr researched the process and now provides the service, in addition to several other products that can be used to burn fat and help contour the body.

In May, Parr secured a space at the Premier Studio Salons at 2855 Whipple Ave. NW. The business provides space for hair stylists and nail technicians. Owner Melissa Tan has operated the business for 15 years and leased space to Parr.

"Anything that falls into the beauty line, and this definitely does," Tan said of Parr's body contour service.

Ultrasonic cavitation — also called ultrasound cavitation — is one of several processes developed for eliminating fat. Parr described it as non-invasive liposuction. The treatment warms and breaks down fat, which is absorbed into the lymphatic system.

Most customers want the treatment for their waist, Parr said. She also can treat thighs, arms and under the chin. Sessions last 30 minutes.

While Parr works out regularly, she said isn't a trainer. People seeking the treatment should be in good overall health and close to the weight they desire.

"If you don't drink a lot of water, don't exercise, it's not going to work," she said of the process.

Since starting the business, Parr has used social media sites for promotion and to display products. Appointments and consultations for ultrasonic cavitation are scheduled using Parr's website, parrtakencare.com.

State funds support W&LE project

A grant from the Ohio Rail Development Commission will help Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway complete a track reconfiguration project in Medina County.

The state agency approved $490,626 to the project, fulfilling a match requirement for a grant through the Federal Rail Administration.

The grants will help Wheeling & Lake Erie reconfigure four connecting tracks that converge in Spencer. The current alignment of tracks sometimes blocks a crossing on state Route 301 and creates traffic delays.

Officials with Wheeling, based in Brewster, said the project will alleviate the traffic problems, increase train operation efficiencies and reduce emissions.

Housing sales down, but prices up

Real estate agents locally and around the state reported a drop in housing sales in June, according to Ohio Realtors.

The number of properties sold in Northeast Ohio during June dropped 3.2% to 5,377 from 5,555 sold in 2021, members of MLS Now reported. So far this year members in the 23-county group, which includes Stark County, have sold 25,046 properties, down 1.7% from 25,484 sold last year.

Statewide real estate agents sold 15,456 units in June, down 6.8% from 16,587 sold during the same month last year. Through the first six months, Ohio Realtors reports that 73,853 properties have sold, a 2.2% drop from 75,549 units sold last year.

Prices, meanwhile, continue to climb. Statewide, the average sale price is $257,791 for a 10.6% increase over $232,990 last year. In the Northeast Ohio market the average price has risen to $227,130 for a 10.2% gain from $206,114 last year.
