Part-time Brick police officer arrested on child porn charges, cops say

BRICK - A part-time police officer in Brick Township has been charged after uploading images of child pornography to the internet, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Wednesday.

John Kisch, 57, of Brick Township, was charged with possession of child pornography, Billhimer said.

The investigation stemmed from cyber-tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual was uploading images of child pornography to the internet, Billhimer said. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crime Unit identified an IP address associated with a Brick Township residence as the location the individual was uploading the images from.

Kisch was ultimately identified as the individual, Billhimer said. He is employed as a part-time Class I Special Police Officer in Brick Township.

On June 13, authorities executed a search warrant on Kisch's home in Brick Township, seizing a desktop computer where more than 100 images of child pornography were found, according to Billhimer.

Kisch was arrested and taken to Ocean County Jail, where he is lodged pending a detention hearing, the prosecutor said.

“We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to protect the most vulnerable among us. Children are most deserving of our unwavering commitment to investigating and prosecuting these types of offenses,” Billhimer said.

Kisch was employed by Brick Township for 22 years and had a $28,819 salary as of March 31, according to the New Jersey Office of Information Technology.

Brick Township Business Administrator Joanne Bergin said that Kisch's part-time employment with the township was immediately terminated when they were notified of the charges.

"These crimes are among the most reprehensible someone can commit as they affect innocent and vulnerable children," Bergin said.

Brick Township Police Chief David Forrester said in a statement on Facebook that he is angered and saddened by the incident, and is disappointed over the actions Kisch has been accused of.

"They are inexcusable and do not represent the values and standards of the Brick Township Police Department," Forrester said.

As a law enforcement agency, Forrester said they are committed to the investigation and prosecution of those who exploit or harm children.

"I assure you that the men and women of the Brick Township Police Department are dedicated to serving you with integrity, professionalism and respect," he said. "We will continue to do everything we can to honor our oath to protect and serve you."
