Part of Winchester Road shut down as Lexington police investigated deadly shooting

A deadly shooting early Friday morning shut down part of Winchester Road during the morning commute in Lexington.

Winchester Road was closed between E. Loudon and Liberty as police investigated a shooting that occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the area, where one man was killed.

Cyrus Davis, 35, was shot and later died at University of Kentucky Medical Center, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The police are investigating his death as a murder, and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning.

Davis was one of two people taken to the hospital. The other man, 24, had non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police reopened the road around 10:45 a.m. Lieutenant Chris Van Brackle, with the Lexington Police Department, said the police had to wait until daylight to make sure they could see all of the evidence at the scene.

“It’s an outdoor scene, so we had shell casings and evidence in the roadways,” Van Brackle said.

Police are still investigating the shooting and did not have any suspects as of Friday morning.
