‘Particulate matter’ in a recalled medicine you inject can cause a pulmonary embolism
One lot of an injection medicine for serious skin infections and staph bloodstream infections has been recalled for “visible particulates.”
After Mylan found that in a dose of Daptomycin for Injection 500 mg/vial, the company recalled all of lot No. 7605112 with an October 2021 expiration date.
Injecting liquid with visible particulates, the recall notice states, “could lead to serious adverse events including, but not limited to, local irritation, vasculitis/phlebitis, antigenic or allergic reactions, and microvascular obstruction, including pulmonary embolism.”
Stericycle is handling the return of the recalled Daptomycin, from consumers all the way up the chain to wholesalers. Anyone with the solution should call Stericycle, 888-641-9736, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time.
