Parts of Elgin and surrounding area told to boil water

ELGIN, Texas (KXAN) – A water supplier that mainly serves Bastrop County told customers in the east side of Elgin and surrounding areas Wednesday to boil their water prior to consumption.

Aqua Water Supply Corporation blamed low distribution pressure for the boil water notice, which it said was required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Aqua WSC issued the notice for customers in the following areas:

  • North of U.S. Highway 290 between the intersection of Old McDade Road and the Elgin city limits

  • East of State Highway 95

  • South of the Williamson/Bastrop County Line

  • Customers on Lund Road between County Line Road and Hwy. 95

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, Aqua WSC said water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil, then boiled for two minutes, and then cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The system said it would let customers know when the water was safe to drink and use as normal.

Aqua WSC said anyone with questions should call it at (512) 303-3943.
