New party decorations business plans Back to School Bash Sunday in Galesburg

GALESBURG — Glitz & Glam, a new business owned by three Galesburg residents, will decorate a Back to School Bash outside the Grand Tap at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Michael Spinks, owner of the Grant Tap, hired Glitz & Glam for the event that will feature free food, free backpacks for students, a bounce house, balloon art, music from DJ Sosa and a mechanical bull at 2100 Grand Ave. All ages are welcome.

Glitz and Glam provides homemade decorations for baby showers, birthday parties, graduation parties and other events.

Remy Townsell said she started the business with her two friends, Erica Gomez and Chanda Rice, and that the group focuses on creating decorations from scratch, using materials found at home like broomsticks, plates, napkin holders and hula hoops.

“It gives us a break away from our regular day-to-day jobs and regular day-to-day lives,” Townsell said. “We get to take a break away and create things and craft our minds and put our energy into positive things.”

Townsell said that Sunday’s bash will be the business's eighth event and that they wanted to partner with the Grand Tap to bring some positivity and something to look forward to for the community.

“I feel like our town has suffered a lot of heartache and pain. We're all hurting, we're all grieving, we all have a lot of things that go on mentally and physically and we need to get back to having a good time and giving back to the community and loving one another.”
