Passaic teen killed, another hospitalized in stabbing early Sunday

A 16-year-old from Passaic died early Sunday after a stabbing in the west side of the city, according to law enforcement officials.

The unnamed male victim was fatally stabbed at about 1:20 a.m. during an altercation near the intersection of Krueger Place and Poplar Street, according to a joint announcement from city police and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second stabbing victim, a 17-year-old Passaic male, was hospitalized at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, they said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. No suspects have been named.

"This is a tragic loss of a minor," Mayor Hector Lora said. "I would pray that all of our young people in our city would understand that life is precious."
