Passenger killed in early-morning Brockway Township rollover crash

A 47-year-old man died as the result of a single-vehicle rollover crash in Brockway Township early this morning, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said.

While the 43-year-old driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, his passenger, from Harrison, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the St. Clair County sheriff, the crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. in the 11000 block of Norman Road. The 43-year-old, from Kimball Township, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 when he lost control on the icy road, rolling the vehicle to its side in a nearby ditch, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation by the St. Clair County Accident Investigation Team. Police say alcohol or drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash.

The names of the driver and passenger were not released, pending further investigation and notification of family members.

In addition to sheriff's officials, Tri-Hospital EMS and the Brockway Fire Department also responded to the scene of the crash this morning.
