Passengers say they’re pleasantly surprised with Labor Day travel at Atlanta airport

Travelers started heading back after the long Labor Day weekend. For those who decided to fly, some say it’s been a breeze.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport expected more than 1.5 million people to travel through the airport from Thursday to Tuesday.

So far, there have been a few delays, but nothing like some travelers said they expected, especially after disruptions during other holiday weekends this summer.

“I anticipated there would longer wait times and more crowds but it’s been fine, real fine, yeah,” Amber Williams told Channel 2′s Veronica Griffin.

Lines at the security checkpoints moved right along as tens of thousands of travelers made their way through.

Passenger after passenger told Channel 2 Action News that they were pleasantly surprised with how smooth things went.

“it’s really, really good. I mean we are not having any issues. No delays,” Corinne Bageard said.

Griffin talked to one family who did experience a delay on their way back to North Carolina, but they said the 2-hour flight delay wasn’t too much of a problem.

“It’s not a long delay,” Selena Drakos said. “We’ve enjoyed this weekend. We went to a ball game. It was excellent.”

An airport operations spokesperson told Channel 2 Action News that operations have been pretty normal.

The airport still advises passengers to check their website for updated information and when to arrive for their flights.
