Need a passport? Palm Springs Library to host passport fair. What you need to know

Getting ready to travel abroad this fall? If you need a passport for the first time (no renewals), the Palm Springs Public Library is hosting a passport fair on Aug. 5 to help you achieve your travel dreams. Here's what you need to know:

When and where is the fair?

The passport fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the Palm Springs Public Library, 300 S. Sunrise Way, on the corner of Sunrise Way and Baristo Road, in the Learning Center.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is needed. Just show up with the correct paperwork.

Do I have to be a Palm Springs resident or hold a library card?

Nope. Passport services at the Palm Springs Library are open to anyone.

What paperwork and documents will I need?

You will need proof of citizenship and identification, and you will need to complete the official forms prior to your visit (go to the library’s website www.palmspringslibrary.org/passports prior to your visit for those.) Staff will review all documentation and once complete will submit your application to the State Department for processing.

What about a passport photo?

Passport photos are also available at the library for an additional fee (proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Palm Springs Library) and can be taken during your visit.

How long will it take to get my passport?

Standard processing time is typically 10-13 weeks. Expedited service (extra fee) is around 7-9 weeks.

How much does it cost?

Passport services are $35, plus $15 if a photo is needed. Expedited processing will cost you an extra $60.

I can't make it. Can the library still help?

If you can't make it on Aug. 5, don't worry. Regular appointments are available through the library’s website Monday-Saturday.

Did you know?

The Palm Springs Public Library was the first library in the nation to be designated as a U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility. Services started in August 1997.

“Our staff is trained and happy to help anyone applying for a new passport. We are excited to offer this service to the community” said Jeannie Kays, director of library services.
