Pastor charged with more than 100 sex crimes against children, NC sheriff says

A pastor at a North Carolina church faces multiple child sex crime charges, officials say.

Rodney Dean Luffman, 58, was charged with more than 100 sex offenses against kids who were ages 4 to 16, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office told The Wilkes Journal-Patriot and other news outlets.

Deputies say the offenses involved two boys and a girl, and most happened from 2000 to 2015, WGHP reported Tuesday.

Luffman serves as a pastor at Open Arms Outreach Ministries, which opened in 2008, according to the church’s website. The Christian congregation is in Elkin, a town roughly 45 miles northwest of Winston-Salem.

In the past, Luffman had worked as a Methodist minister, according to WXII.

Luffman was arrested last week and faced “115 felony sex charges — 80 counts of indecent liberties and 35 counts of sexual offenses,” the station reports.

He was taken to the Wilkes County jail and is expected to appear in court later this month, according to the Journal-Patriot and state records.

A WFMY report lists Luffman’s accusers as ages 3 to 15 at the time of the alleged offenses.

Officials as of Tuesday were still investigating the case, according to multiple news outlets.
