Pat Fallon files for state senate seat that includes Wichita Falls

U.S.. Rep. Pat Fallon will give up his Congressional seat to run for a Texas State Senate seat that includes Wichita Falls.

The Sherman Republican will run for the seat currently held by fellow Republican Drew Springer. Springer has announced he will not seek re-election.

Fallon filed for the state senate seat Monday, the first day of filings for the Nov. 5, 2024, election. The Texas Tribune reported Fallon immediately got the support of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who presides over the senate.

He also has an oppenent in the GOP primary, Frisco trauma surgeon Carrie de Moor. The primary election will be March 5.

Fallon held the 30th District senate seat until 2018, but gave it up to make a successful run for Congress in 2020.

The 30th District includes the eastern portion of Wichita County, while the state's 28th District represents the western portion.
