Pat Paterson Girls Prep Hoops Roundup: Jonesville and Reading advance to finals

HILLSDALE — (Not all stats were available at the writing of this article) County teams met at Hillsdale College and Hillsdale High School to compete in the Pat Paterson Holiday Classic basketball tournament. Semifinal games were played on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Reading took on Hillsdale Academy. Jonesville faced off against Hillsdale. Waldron took on Camden-Frontier. Pittsford faced Will Carleton Academy. Check out the final scores for each matchup below and the schedule for the championship games on Dec. 29.

Pool A: Reading 39 - Hillsdale Academy 26

(Disputed score: There are reports that the final was 37-24)

The Rangers and head coach Kevin Bailey defeated the Colts of Hillsdale Academy in the Pool A semifinals. The Rangers were led in scoring by Ariana McDowell, who had 14 points and two steals. Aubree Ervans had 10 points and nine rebounds. Ervans also had two steals. Maggie Santure had five points.

The Colts drop to 4-1 on the season. The Colts were led by recent Hillsdale College running commit Megan Roberts, who had 15 points and six rebounds. Reading moves on to play longtime Big 8 rival Jonesville in the Pool A championship. The game starts at 5:00 p.m. at Hillsdale College. The Colts play in a consolation game at Hillsdale High School at 5:00 p.m.

Pool A: Jonesville 51 - Hillsdale 46

Comet head coach Tom Dunn and Hillsdale head coach Moonie Dillard had their two squads ready to play in the opening round of the Pat Paterson tournament. The game came down to the wire between the Hornets and Comets. The Hornets' multiple comeback attempts brought the score within one basket and gave the defending Pool A champs fits for the entire game.

Teh Comets got two three pointers from ace shooter Julie Mach to help pull away. Mach had a total of 10 points. Gracen Hager had 10 points and five rebounds. Alexis Trine had 11 points and five rebounds. Korra Estel had two points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Megan Rufenacht led the Hornets with 15 points. Rakell Brown had nine points. Rylee Miller had eight points. Grace Terpening had five points.

The Hornets play Hillsdale Academy in a Pool A consolation game on Dec. 29 at 5:00 p.m. Jonesville plays Reading to defend their Pat Paterson title on Dec. 29 at 5:00 p.m. The game will be played at Hillsdale College.

Pool B: Pittsford 65 - WCA 20

Head coach Aaron Davis and the Pittsford Wildcats took down Will Carleton Academy in their return to the Pat Paterson Tournament. The Wildcats formed a well-rounded scoring effort from Ava Mallar (16 points), Liz Gerig (12 points) and Riley McCumber (8 points).

The Wildcats will play for the Pool B title at Hillsdale College against the Waldron Spartans. The game will be played at 3:30 p.m. It is the first game of the day for the championships. Will Carleton Academy will play in a consolation game against Camden-Frontier at Hillsdale High School at 3:30 p.m.

Pool B: Waldron 34 - Camden-Frontier 29

Head coach Jon Burk and the Waldron Spartan girls prep hoops team got a major rivalry victory over Camden-Frontier to move on to the Pool B championship.

The Spartans used a strong defensive effort in the first half to hold back the Camden-Frontier girls prep hoops team. Jenna Fellabaum led the team with 15 points. Kailee Kurtz hit a triple and had 11 points. Morgan Burk had five points. Emma Wines had a three.

Camden-Frontier was led by week two athlete of the week June Best, who hit four triples and had 17 points. Karley McKibbin had 10 points. Lexus Sigler had two points.

Waldron plays Pittsford in the Pool B championship at 3:30 p.m. at Hillsdale College. Camden-Frontier takes on Will Carleton Academy in the consolation game at 3:30 p.m. at Hillsdale High School.
