Patch Honors New Trier Graduating Seniors In Class Of 2020

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — Patch is sharing the achievements of local high school graduates by putting them in the spotlight this month. Due to the coronavirus, in-person classroom teaching and extracurricular gatherings have been canceled for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year in Illinois.

We know these wonderful seniors are missing out on some of the last moments of the school year and we hope to give the community a way to share their pride in our class of 2020 high school graduates.

Here are some of the graduating high school seniors from the historic class of 2020:

Mary Amelia Atteberry, New Trier Township High School

Attebery, who was a member of the New Trier Dance Team, plans to attend the University of Texas and study exercise science, according to her family.

Message from family: "We couldn’t be more proud! Keep dreaming and working hard! Love you!"

Pearce Bailey, New Trier High School

Bailey plans to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and major in economics, according to his family. The Eagle Scout was a National Merit Scholar finalist, a Presidential Scholar nominee and three-time All-American on the swim team at New Trier.

Message from family: "Congratulations Pearce, we are so proud of the amazing person you have grown up to be. We are excited to see what the future holds for you."

Ali Benedetto, New Trier High School

Benedetto plans to attend Brown University and continue to play tennis, according to her family. She was captain of the tennis team at New Trier and took third place in the state class 2A singles finals in October.

Message from family: "Congratulations on your commitment to play tennis at brown university. We are so proud of all your hard work in the classroom and on the tennis court!"

Ian Cata, New Trier High School

Cata, who plans to attend the University of Dayton and major in political science, was a member of RICE tutoring and the environmental and photography clubs at New Trier.

Message from family: "We are so proud of you Ian! The Class of 2020 is one-of-a-kind! We love you!"

Kathleen Graf, New Trier High School

Graf was a board member of Enriching Lives through Service, played on the varsity basketball team and sang in the High Five Choir. She has been awarded an Evans Scholarship to Indiana University, where she plans to major in special education, according to her family.

Garrett Kalter, New Trier High School

Kalter, who was coxswain on the New Trier Rowing team, plans to continue rowing at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, according to his family. At New Trier, he also trumpet in the concert, jazz and pep bands.

Claire Mooney, New Trier High School

Mooney, who plans to study nursing at the University of Iowa, was a member of the Rush Junior Auxiliary Board and Girls Club at New Trier, according to her family.

Message from family: "Congrats Claire! We are so proud of you and the beautiful inside and out young women you have become!"

Christopher Vongher, New Trier High School

Vongher, who plans to pursue to career in science, has yet to decide between offers to attend Marquette University, St. Thomas University and the University of Denver, according to his family.

Message from family: "Good Luck in the next journey and Congratulations in your Graduation from New Trier!
