PATERSON — COVID savaged Silk City's restaurant business, said Mayor Andre Sayegh. With this in mind, he and the business community have planned the city's first Restaurant Week.

Starting Friday and running through Dec. 2, at least 15 of the city's restaurants will participate in the event.

"For $17.92, representing 1792, when this city was founded, patrons will get an appy, an entrée and a dessert," Sayegh said of the special promotion.

Seafood Ring, a restaurant that specializes in seafood and was opened by two cousins who share a loveof boxing and family, will offer these specials: "The Jab," with three pieces of porgy, "The Hook," with three pieces of whiting, and "The Knock Out," with six shrimp.

"It's our motto to keep fighting whatever you are going through," said seafood Ring co-owner Shalieah Castro. "You will make it to the end." She speaks from experience. Her husband, Richard Fleming, became paralyzed after a motorcycle accident. He is now managing the restaurant.

Seafood Ring opened in the spring of 2019 and brings together seafood and soul food that "provides the ultimate comfort food," Castro said.

"COVID was tough, but we pushed through it," she said.

"We know how tough it has been for our restaurants to come back after the pandemic," Sayegh said. "If this works well, we might come back in summer, when it's warmer, and say let's go. We'll see how this goes."
